چکیده

This paper presents studies of the universal properties of strongly interacting Fermi gases using Bragg spectroscopy. We focus on pair-correlations, their relationship to the contact C introduced by Tan, and their dependence on both the momentum and temperature. We show that short-range pair correlations obey a universal law, first derived by Tan through measurements of the static structure factor, which displays a universal scaling with the ratio of the contact to the momentum C/q. Bragg spectroscopy of ultracold Li atoms is employed to measure the structure factor for a wide range of momenta and interaction strengths, providing broad confirmation of this universal law. We show that calibrating our Bragg spectra using the f -sum rule leads to a dramatic improvement in the accuracy of the structure factor measurement. We also measure the temperature dependence of the contact in a unitary gas and compare our results to calculations based on a virial expansion.

Measurement of the entropy and critical temperature of a strongly interacting Fermi gas.

We report a model-independent measurement of the entropy, energy, and critical temperature of a degenerate, strongly interacting Fermi gas of atoms. The total energy is determined from the mean square cloud size in the strongly interacting regime, where the gas exhibits universal behavior. The entropy is measured by sweeping a bias magnetic field to adiabatically tune the gas from the strongly ...

Unified theory of strongly correlated electron systems

In framework of eigen-functional bosonization method, we introduce an imaginary phase field to uniquely represent electron correlation, and demonstrate that the Landau Fermi liquid theory and the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid theory can be unified. It is very clear in this framework that the TomonagaLuttinger liquid behavior of one-dimensional interacting electron gases originates from their Fermi ...

Universal Thermodynamics of a Strongly Interacting Fermi Gas

We study the properties of an optically-trapped, Fermi gas of Li atoms, near the center of a broad Feshbach resonance, where strong interactions are observed. Strongly interacting Fermi gases exhibit universal behavior, and are of interest as models of exotic systems ranging from high temperature superconductors to neutron stars and quark-gluon plasmas. We measure the frequency and damping rate...

Is an Ultra-Cold Strongly Interacting Fermi Gas a Perfect Fluid?

Fermi gases with magnetically tunable interactions provide a clean and controllable laboratory system for modeling interparticle interactions between fermions in nature. The s-wave scattering length, which is dominant a low temperature, is made to diverge by tuning near a collisional (Feshbach) resonance. In this regime, two-component Fermi gases are stable and strongly interacting, enabling te...
